What I would have done differently... | Spin-off of OLAS Photography's wedding post | South Central VA On Location Photographer

My wedding was on October 9, 2010. It was an usually warm day for October. The location was at a local museum--The Avoca Museum, which is a big house. A really beautiful, big house. The wedding was outdoors and the location fit perfectly in to my vintage vibe.
So what would I have done differently? My inspiration for this post comes from a recent post by (once like a spark) photography. You can read that post here
1. Had WAY FEWER guests. I wish that my ceremony and reception could have been more intimate and personal. Don't get me wrong, I loved the way that our ceremony turned out. Just the way I wanted! But there were so many people there, that afterwards, I didn't get to talk to everyone! I had no clue that certain people were there until I read our guest album...sad.
2. Dancing. I wanted to have fun dancing at the reception, but we never got around to more than "our dances." We were trying to socialize and get photos taken. If there had been fewer guests, that would have resolved this problem. I also worried that there wouldn't be many people left to see us off, so we left the reception earlier than I wanted to. Why did I worry? Was it really that big of a deal? NO! Don't sweat the small stuff! I could have had dancing if I hadn't been so concerned about guests watching us leave...

3. Details. I think I did rather well with some details. However, if there had been fewer guests, my reception costs would have been less, therefore more money to go towards the details:)

4. Let my Dad cut his hair. Funny story...my Dad had had long hair since I was in 8th grade. He wanted to cut it before my wedding and I wouldn't let him because I was afraid that I wouldn't like it. It's his hair! He can do what he wants...why was I so picky?! After our wedding, he cut it and I LOVED it! He looked 10 years younger...really. So nice. And everyone was so shocked he cut it! See, I could have let him surprise everyone at the wedding...lol.
Love my Daddy:)
Those about sum it up...especially the details one:) When you plan your special day...stop, think, and take some time to talk to those of us who have already done it! Don't sweat the small stuff though...your day will be as perfect as you make it!
Here are a few more shots from our special day:

Happy wedding planning!

This week's I Heart Faces challenge is Oh So Silly! Once again, I instantly knew which photo I wanted to enter:) This is my son...and this photo is from his recent 5 month session! He is so much fun, and was hilarious for his pictures. Here he is wearing his Dad's hat...I have to give credit to my sister though for getting him to laugh and play!
This week's judge is Kelsey Anderson Photography who is simply fabulous! I love following her on Facebook. Not to mention she has started a forum--Evoking You that always has amazing posts and links. I love both pages!

Kolton | 5 months | South Central VA On Location Photographer

I can't believe my son, Kolton, is 5 months old already! I decided to do his photos about 1 week early because of the weather forecast. We got to go outside Tuesday...it was rather warm and not breezy. I'm glad I took advantage...and I'm even more excited about the results. My sister came down and helped me out. He loves laughing at her! Total shoot time: 10 minutes!
Melts my heart!

How funny!!

He was talking here...I can just hear him! :)

Of course, we had to snap a few with his red chair! I'm trying to use it differently each month:)

I love this one because the hat fell down in his eyes:)

 Look at those eyes!!!

Kolton is definitely my inspiration...the most amazing blessing that I have ever received! :)

MBP Faves of 2011 | Post #7 | South Central VA On Location Photographer

Post 7! If you haven't read the 6 previous posts, you will want to!
So on to more of my favorites:)
Kim's senior session was so full of her creativity. She had so many ideas and props! I loved this one with the waterfall so much...
As you can see, she loves zebra print!

I just love this one...and the processing tint.

This one is so serious, but I love the way it looks.

The Rowles family are very near and dear to my heart...Jarret had returned from Afghanistan to his lovely wife Victoria, and their daughter Kylar. They flew home for a month, so we definitely squeezed in a family session! It was one of my favorite sessions of the whole year...as you can probably tell, because I had a really hard time narrowing down choices!

Jarret calls this the "Simba" photo:)

Sweet family:)

"We're gonna getcha!" Love the emotion here:)

I love photographing LOVE.

The Tantaquidgeon family fought a chilly wind for their session, but they were tough!

Probably my favorite B&W image of the year.

2012 Senior Kristin

Fall session with the Perkins family...Joshua really wasn't in the mood for photos, but this one was a favorite of mine!

I still have a couple more posts to make...but if you want to see all of my favorites from 2011 now, you can check them out on my fan page!

MBP Faves of 2011 | Post #6 | South Central VA On Location Photographer

Post 6! If you haven't read the previous 5 posts, you will want to! I'm blogging about my favorite photos from my sessions in 2011.
This lovely couple had me do their engagement photos in October...and they were married a few days ago on New Year's Eve! Congrats to Jess and Jonathan!
I just loved this one of her ring, but them kissing out of focus just makes this shot!
Love this one with the sun back lighting them:)

The Owen family was a lot of fun to photograph. Little Peyton is so funny! She kept calling me a silly goose...which was one of my tactics for keeping her attention:)
I love fun shots like this one.

This is the shot they chose for a large canvas! So sweet:)

This was my favorite shot of 2012 Senior, Katy.

Renee and Brian's engagement session had a lot of favorites for me, but managed to narrow it down to 3!

This one was one of Renee's favorites too!

I absolutely love the emotion in this photo...

Be sure to check back for a few more Faves of 2011 postings! If you want to see all of my favorites from 2011 now, you can check them out on my fan page!
